The Brave, Little Ninja Will Go to South Korea

It’s underway! The Brave, Little Ninja’s next destination is going to be Seoul, South Korea!

As by my previous blog post, you may recall that I dropped my English minor to instead pursue a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certification. By the end of this semester, I will have taken all the appropriate courses, but the final piece before I get certified is a practicum/internship that I’m going to do this summer—and I’m doing it in South Korea! This has been in the works since last semester, but I was reluctant to announce anything until I had been officially accepted. Now that I have been accepted…

Here are the quick facts as of right now:

When?
July 13-Aug 24
Where?
Seoul (the capitol)
How am I getting there?
I’m going with One Mission Society (OMS)
What will I be doing?
helping Korean missionaries with their English (after that is still up in the air)

My next steps:

Learning Korean: My parents bought me a Rosetta Stone program for learning Korean for Christmas last year, so that is a huge help. I’ve already amassed a huge collection of index cards with vocab words that I carry in my backpack should I ever have a spare moment to flip through them. But most importantly, a really kind friend at Taylor has offered to tutor me in Korean on Saturdays! Though I haven’t delved very deep into learning the language yet, I know I’m picking it up faster because of having studied Japanese in the past (some of how the language is constructed is similar). I’m excited and very motivated to start learning!

Climbing through the red tape: I not only have to complete all the forms for the missions organization’s side of things, I also have to fill out all the forms on Taylor’s end. It’s not going to be exciting by any means, but I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do.

Raising support: Yes, I know it’s shocking, but traveling halfway across the world does cost some money. I’ll be writing and sending out support letters, and I would appreciate it greatly if you would pray for me in this regard.

I’ll update you certainly once everything is finalized and perhaps a few times before as I get excited about new developments. I would greatly appreciate prayers for provision, clarification of God’s plan, and flexibility on my part as I prepare for this exciting summer. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this if only in part.

Looking forward to it!
